Why is Spread Truth in Africa?
Why Africa?
It was really God who orchestrated everything from the inception. Imagine that!
My first contact with the country of Kenya came through our New York City Thanksgiving trip when Hamisi Kirenga, a pastor from Ridgeway Baptist church in Nairobi, Kenya, attended our trip at the invitation of Ralph Endress. While in the states, Hamisi was also able to come visit our home office and see the complete mission of Spread Truth. His heart was immediately ignited that these same things that we had done for many years could also be implemented in the country of Kenya. As they say, the rest is history!
In May of 2018, God began to open up incredible doors to reach the youth of Kenya. Because 75% of the Kenyan population is under 35 years of age, the government of Kenya is concerned for their welfare because of radicalization, terrorism, and poverty.
We know that the ultimate answer is the gospel but no mission usually advances further than the people in place. We have four “A” players on our staff in Nairobi. It is hard for me to explain to you all the various opportunities we have had. But let me try!
- We are in official partnership with the government of Kenya to reach the youth. This has brought untold opportunities, especially in the time of the pandemic. With the freedom to share the gospel, we have had unusual opportunities for which we are deeply grateful.
- Another major partnership we have is with Kapu Africa, a division at the Midwest Food Bank. They have been incredibly generous in allowing us to give away tons and tons of food along with the good news of Jesus Christ. Meeting the physical needs of the Kenyans has opened up opportunities to meet the deeper needs spiritually.
- Our sports outreaches, church plants, pastoral training, and the front porch initiative are other incredible programs that have gone beyond what anyone would have expected. To God be the glory great things he has done!!
