Spread Truth (originally named NYC Ministries) began in the summer of 1994, when Calvary Baptist Church in Normal, Illinois, sent 25 college students to the parks of New York City to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with complete strangers. The trip was well-received and produced Kingdom fruit as many lives were transformed by God's grace. Thus, the trip to New York City became an annual event. By the summer of 2000, attendance had grown to over 175 people. Through much prayer and counsel, four people with a desire to see disciples become disciple-makers, founded NYC Ministries, Inc. on February 21, 2001. Led by a volunteer Board of Directors and funded by the donations of God’s people, the organization received federal tax-exempt 501(c)3 status in the summer of 2002.
Ministry opportunities rapidly expanded beyond NYC, and it became apparent changing the organizational name to one without geographic focus was the best course of action. In 2006, NYC Ministries became Spread Truth Ministries. Since that time, Spread Truth has focused it's efforts to working through the local church by providing Gospel-centered resources, training, and experiences to reach the world with the gospel.
