Is Christianity good for the world? Yes! (And it’s more relevant than ever!)
It’s a fair and timely question—and the title of a book by Sharon James. I believe now more than ever there must be a Christian apologetic—not just one focused on proving the resurrection of Christ or the reliability of Scripture, though those are vital—but one that highlights the beauty of Christianity.
Much of the current discourse (especially online) by both Christians and non-Christians often fails to reflect the richness, goodness, and glory of the Christian faith. However, when we examine history with an honest eye, we see the profound impact Christianity has had on the world.
As author Glen Scrivener puts it, it’s like the air we breathe—we’re so surrounded by its influence we don’t even recognize it anymore.
Movements rooted in benevolence, compassion, human dignity, freedom, and justice ALL trace their roots back to the person and teachings of Jesus. Christianity has been a force for good, not just in ideas but in action. And some of the most powerful arguments for the truth of the gospel are not intellectual—they are embodied in our lives and our love, as we reflect the heart of the Creator.
That’s why we created the short film The Man on the Middle Cross. It was born during the pandemic, a time when so many believers seemed more consumed with masks and vaccines than with embodying Christ. I wanted to offer something that simply pointed back to Jesus. With help from a powerful clip by Alistair Begg, the film sought to capture the beauty of grace at the heart of the gospel.
So, is Christianity really good for the world?
I believe it is. It’s the one story that truly gives us meaning in a mixed-up society and clamoring culture. It’s a story we must tell—with kindness, conviction, truth, and grace, and then live out.
And if there’s ever offense, may it be from the message itself, not from the messenger.
